Year 6 Transition Day: Class Blog Discovery

This is our class blog. The class blog allows for communication between teacher and students, but it also allow communication between students. Along with Twitter, this a forum where you can express your thoughts, feelings, and ideas about our technology class. Using the blog often and participating in discussion will create a digital learning community that can benefit us all in LOTS of ways.
Your task is to browse this website. Click on links to other sights, watch videos, read about assignments, browse the photo feed and twitter feed, and view other students' contributions and websites. After browsing the site, please answer the following questions about what you have found.
- Tell one thing you liked about the site.
- Tell one thing that could be improved, or tell about something you would like to see on the site
- List two things we will be leaning this year
- What supplies will you need for every class?
- What should happen in the first 5 minutes of every class

The Design Process (Design Cycle)
When a designer is given a problem to solve, they often break down the problem into a number of smaller more manageable activities. This is usually easier than trying to solve the whole problem at once. These activities lead to what is often called the 'design process'. The design process begins with a 'design brief'. This is a brief summary of the problem you are trying to solve and in a few words or sentences explains what you have been asked to do.

Writing a Formal Project Review in Microsoft Word
Unit 2. Presenting Information to suit different purposes
Project Review
Where you satisfied with your final products? Were they successful? Why/Why not?
Give examples of how you adapted (changed) your designs to suit the correct audience and purpose? What new skills/ideas did you learn in the project? What improvements would you make to your work if you had time? You can talk about all or choose one of your products in detail!
What would you do differently if you did the project again?
Do you have any alternative ideas that would have made the products you made more successful?

Happy New Year. I hope you all had a nice Christmas!
Before the holiday we were working on a unit called Presenting information to suit different purposes. In this unit you created several different documents. You made
- An Info-graphic
- A Poster
- A User Guide
You learnt many new skills and used many different pieces of software to create them. This week you will be writing a project review in Microsoft Word describing what you learnt, what you think went well and how you can improve.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Today, in preparation, I would like you to write notes on a new blog post answering the following questions.
1. What is meant by the 'audience'
2. How can audience affect the way something is designed.
3. Can you give two examples of something you designed, who the audience was, and how made sure it was suitable for the correct audience. What techniques did you use?
4. What is meant by 'purpose'.
5. What is meant by the informing someone and persuading someone?
6. Your Poster for the School Play was intended to be Persuasive because you were trying to attract people to buy a ticket. What techniques did you use to make your poster persuasive?

Use the ICT Dictionary to help you and look back at the Wikispace to see the lessons we completed together. This presentation we looked at may be especially useful.

How should I present my writing?
I have made this blog post for those of you who are not sure how to present assignments properly. Yes, presentation is important especially if it is for a piece of writing that you want to be graded by your teacher.
Remember, normal blog posts are more informal and so you don´t need to worry about the presentation of these as much..
